From old do-it-yourself sweaters

Sweater preparation

Before you begin remaking your old “friend”, you need to wash it in hot water, dry it at high temperature, and then iron it. The sweater will greatly decrease in size. Wool fibers roll up and will not crumble during operation. If possible, it must be disassembled into parts, if not, simply cut at the seams.

We sew a hat

It’s very easy to sew a hat from your old sweater. For this you will not need a lot of time and any special knowledge and skills.

Important! In order for the hat to be neat and fit nicely, you need to cut out 3 or 5 petals (parts). This applies to both female and male models.

For a hat, we need a chest and a back from a sweater:

  1. Cut 5 petals. To determine the width of the petal, you need to measure the circumference of the head with a centimeter and divide the resulting number by 5.

Important! Remember to leave a couple of centimeters for allowances. The length of the petal will depend on the model of your hat.

  1. Sew the petals together on a sewing machine.
  2. The final stage is sewing on the elastic band. Cut a strip of fabric from the sweater equal to the circumference of your head and sew it into a circle. The width of the strip is approximately 5-6 cm.
  3. Sew the strip to the bottom edge of the cap.

That's all, the hat is ready. DIY patterns for such a hat from an old sweater can be found for every taste.

Important! Some propose using an adhesive gun instead of a sewing machine, that is, parts should not be sewn together, but glued together.

We sew mitts

From the sweater you can sew excellent mitts, which are very convenient in the cold season:

  1. To do this, cut a rectangle, 30 by 20 cm, from the edge of the sweater.
  2. Cut it along the seam to make two parts.
  3. Lay the two parts face down and mark a 6 cm wide hole for the thumb.
  4. Approximately 5 cm should be retreated from the edge.
  5. Sew both pieces in length, leaving a thumb hole.

Important! You can also sew mittens by simply making a pattern on the hand, only by tracing the thumb around your hand, take it a little to the side - this way the mittens will be more convenient.
