The main methods of polishing watch glass

There are many ways to eliminate unwanted bands on the watch and you can implement them yourself.

Important! The methods that will be described below are universal, that is, they can be applied to any type of glass. Only depending on each material will have to show a different level of effort and accuracy.

First way

This method is suitable for polishing glass on a watch at home, if only small scratches are formed on it. For its implementation, we need the following materials:

  • Fine sandpaper. It can be replaced with GOI paste No. 1.
  • Soap or abrasive tooth powder (paste can be used).
  • Smooth surface for subsequent work.
  • Soft tissue (preferably microfiber).
  • Some water.

p1260117To perform this procedure, you must follow the following algorithm:

  1. Remove the glass from the case, then carefully wipe it with a prepared rag, thereby removing all dirt from the surface.
  2. Put the processed glass on a flat surface.
  3. Next, you can already moisten the glass with water and start polishing with the material of your choice. The movements should be undulating and repeated with the same force of pressure on the surface.

Important! During the entire procedure, translational movements must be repeated, wetting the glass with water. Thus, the surface is brought to a matte state without any flaws.

  1. Apply the required amount of powder, previously moistened in water (you can use a paste or soap), on the surface just sanded. Using a microfiber cloth, continue polishing using the same movements as when polishing with sandpaper.

Important! After a couple of minutes, you can already see the first results of your work, but you should not stop there. Such polishing should last 10-20 minutes.

  1. To complete the procedure, the polished part is inserted back into the device body.

Second way

In this case, polishing the glass on the watch will refer to scratches of medium depth. So, here is what we need for further work:

  • Pasta GOI numbers 1, 2 and 3.
  • Leather (can be replaced with felt).
  • Soap, abrasive toothpaste or paste.
  • Water.
  • Smooth and even surface for further work.
  • Microfiber cloth.

To remove this type of scratches on the glass, you must follow these steps:

  1. First of all, you need to remove the glass from the watch case and gently wipe it with a microfiber cloth.
  2. Apply a little GOI paste No. 3 to a microfiber rag that was previously moistened in water and begin to polish the glass on the watch with waved movements. When noticeable scratches are removed, you need to replace the material used with the second number and do the same procedure. Lastly, they use GOI under the first number to remove micro-scratches. Ultimately, the glass is perfectly matte without any flaws.
  3. When the glass dries, you should apply a tooth powder on it (or any of the three options of your choice) and continue to do the same actions with a rag soaked in water. The steps in this step should last about 15 minutes.
  4. Wipe the treated surface from the remnants of the used material and insert the glass back into the body.

Third way

This method is ideal for deep stripes. To sand glass on the watch at home, you will need the following things:

  • GOI paste No. 1-4.
  • Medium and fine grit sandpaper.
  • A piece of leather or felt.
  • Soap, abrasive toothpaste or paste.
  • A small amount of water.
  • Smooth smooth surface.

  1. Pull the glass from the case and carefully wipe it from possible dust or other contaminants.
  2. Begin the procedure using emery paper with medium grit, while conducting wavy movements along the part.
  3. Include in the composition of GOI №4 - it will help smooth out and remove the deepest and largest irregularities.
  4. To remove the following depth scratches, it is necessary to use GOI materials with numbers 2 and 3, and then an emery cloth with fine grain.
  5. Lastly, they use paste number 1 - it will help to come to a perfectly matte state of the glass and smooth out microscopic scratches.
  6. Now frosted glass needs to give a glossy shine. To do this, you need to polish it using soap, tooth powder.

Important! The movements should be the same as when polishing with previous materials, and the time of this procedure should be approximately 10-15 minutes.

  1. At the end of the procedure, you should put the glass back in the case of the mechanism and enjoy a clear view on the dial.

Sapphire polishing

This material requires the greatest care on the part of the master, because it is the hardest and most fragile at the same time. That is why we consider this material separately.

In order to polish sapphire crystal, it is necessary to replace the GOI paste with diamond. The operation algorithm remains the same, depending on the depth of the scratches. The only thing that needs to be done is to be extremely careful during the entire procedure so that you do not accidentally harm the surface permanently.
